This magnificent gothic revival building which was formerly a Convent of Sisters of Mercy was designed in the mid 19 th century by A W Pugin – same architect as House of Commons in London.
Offaly Council purchased the building and major conservation work was undertaken. Original feature including stained glass windows are unique. Desks International were tasked with providing all the furniture and library shelving to convert to a public library. Book shelving with glass and panels supplied in a neutral, finish so the book covers and stained glass original windows provided the colours computer desks, chairs and reception unit was supplied.
For the children a special secret story telling area with stars shining was installed. This special building has a function and renewed purpose within the community of Birr. It was a privilege to work on this project with the architects and local librarians.
